Whether you are in the development stages of creating or updating a website for your business, it’s vital you take the essential planning steps to ensure it’s an online success.

Understand How Websites Work is a half day workshop that has been designed to guide you from the initial planning stages of creating a website through to its launch. We discuss:

* the marketing principles behind a successful website,

* explain hosting options and how to select a suitable domain name,

* what the basic structures are for a website layout,

* how to get your website online,

* how search engines work,

* how to successfully launch and market your website once it’s complete.

Our experienced presenter, David McLeary, has been working in the field of websites for the last twelve years and during that time he has touched on every aspect and challenge possible in getting businesses online. Forming, running and successfully growing his own company for much of that time has allowed him to explore both website design and website coding and development skills. As David’s knowledge grew it became clear to him that there was an urgent demand within the business world for his style of help and support with getting businesses to engage with the challenges and opportunities that the web has to offer. David has been delivering training seminars and lectures for the past 5 years where a large number of businesses have benefited from his understanding and clear delivery of large and unwieldy topics.

We are running this workshop at the following venues and dates:

7th March 2012 – Aspire Centre, Lowestoft, Suffolk
22nd March 2012 – Fakenham Racecourse, Fakenham, Norfolk

Price to attend is £50 per person and includes the opportunity to have a one-to-one with a member of our team at the end of the workshop to discuss your business needs. This workshop is one of five online marketing workshops we are running. Our other topics cover Social Networking, Email Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation and Google Analytics. For more details call us on 08448 708 196 or email us at events@martello-associates.co.uk, or visit www.martello-associates.co.uk/events to book your place online.

NOTES:

Martello Associates was founded by a team of qualified IT business advisers in December 2011, after recognising a gap in the market due to the regional Business Link services ending November 2011. The company offers independent and impartial IT and online marketing advice to SME’s throughout Norfolk and Suffolk. Services include IT workshops, website reviews and comprehensive advice on how to build a successful website

FABCOM launched: a new Fakenham based organisation delivering promotion and networking for local businesses.

The beginning of 2012 sees the beginning of a new era in Fakenham’s business life with the launch of FABCOM, the new dedicated Fakenham Area Business Community. It has been set up with the simple objective of helping all local businesses promote themselves to the general public and their fellow businesses in the Fakenham area.

With the support of Fakenham Town Council, Fakenham Chamber of Commerce and Kick Start Fakenham, FABCOM will promote the town’s businesses through a range of business festivals and events, grow Fakenham’s local economy through proactively encouraging more consumers and businesses to do business locally and with each other than ever before, give the town’s businesses a voice via a dedicated online business presence and forum, and facilitate informal and friendly business networking.

FABCOM has initially been set up by local businessmen, Steve Hall, who runs web design company Wensum.net, and Keith Osborn, who runs Keith Osborn Photography. Steve and Keith are now actively looking for other local businesses to become members and contribute their opinions, ideas and experience as soon as possible.

Steve commented: “FABCOM is intended to be a genuine community, not a top-down governed organisation, and we offer free membership via online registration to any business in the Fakenham area and we promise that membership will not have any onerous conditions”.

Keith added: “We all know that times are quite difficult for the business community at the moment, but we passionately believe that if we can harness and leverage all the business expertise in and around the town, and encourage us all to do more business locally, Fakenham can come through these hard times in better shape than ever before”.

An open meeting will be arranged in March or April 2012 by FABCOM for all local businesses, but in the meantime businesses are encouraged to visit the FABCOM website at www.fabcom.co.uk to find out more and to register for membership.

14th February 2012
NEWS RELEASE

WEBCAMS GIVE VIEWS OF COURTING BIRDS OF PREY

Peregrines and tawny owls will be the stars of webcams installed by national bird of prey conservation charity the Hawk and Owl Trust so that visitors to its website www.hawkandowl.org will be able to view the nesting behaviour of these beautiful birds of prey.

One webcam gives the spectacular view of the peregrine platform installed by the Trust on the spire of Norwich Cathedral, 75metres above the streets of the city. The other webcam gives a more intimate view, inside a tawny owl nest box located at the Trust’s Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve near Fakenham.

The Hawk and Owl Trust installed the Norwich nesting platform in close consultation with staff at the Cathedral last year to provide a suitable nest site for a pair of peregrine falcons that had taken up residence at the Cathedral. The nesting platform was an immediate success and CCTV cameras high up on the spire gave wonderful views of the birds making their first breeding attempt. The female peregrine was still in juvenile plumage however, and although she managed to lay a single egg it did not hatch successfully. Now the peregrines are getting ready for the new breeding season, the female has moulted into adult plumage, and hopes are high for successful breeding this year.

To begin with the peregrine webcam will show a still image from the platform that will update every minute. A live image will become available nearer to egg laying when activity on camera intensifies.

The webcam can also be viewed on the Norwich Cathedral website www.cathedral.org.uk and if the birds do lay eggs the Hawk and Owl Trust will be running a watch point at the Cathedral where the public can view the birds through telescopes. Times and dates for the watch point will be posted on the Trust’s website. If you are interested in volunteering to help at the watch point please contact the Hawk and Owl Trust on 01328 856788 or sign up at http://bit.ly/zOSf1u.

The tawny owls on the Trust’s Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve are also appear to be preparing to breed. Tawny owls are among the earliest birds to breed each year and eggs could be laid in the next couple of weeks. The webcam from the tawny owl box will allow visitors to the Trust’s website to see if and when eggs are laid.

Visitors to Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve can see both webcams in the visitor centre as well as images from other cameras around the reserve. The reserve is open every day except Mondays and the visitor centre is open from 9am until 4pm.

The Cathedral Peregrines project has been generously supported by Archant, ContiTech UK, iCode Systems, Lady Hind Trust, LVS-Imas Ltd, M and A Partners, Opticron, SIMM Conveyor Services Ltd, Syngenta Ltd, WildSounds, WiSpire by FreeClix and in memory of the late Mr. Ray Rogers of Norwich.

-ENDS-

Press enquiries: Leanne Thomas 01328 856788.

Notes to editors:
1.	Hawk and Owl Trust
Founded in 1969 to help save the peregrine, the Hawk and Owl Trust is a national charity which now works for the conservation and appreciation of all wild birds of prey and their habitats – both in its nature reserves (such as Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve near Fakenham) and in partnership with others. Working with other organisations, farmers, foresters and landowners, the Trust researches, restores and manages nesting, roosting and feeding habitats and encourages greater understanding and appreciation of these very special birds. www.hawkandowl.org
