Example press release

This is an example of the format you should consider using for the main body of your article. You’ll find that some of the info it contains is duplicated from other parts of the form you’ll be filling in, but this will ensure that the main section of your press release contains everything required and will be copyable from the document easily.

You’ll notice that it’s split into sections and has…

  1.  A Title section – the headline (containing relevant keywords)
  2. An introductory paragraph – 3-5 sentences summarizing the entire press release with a ‘who, what, where, when and how’ in the first sentence. Includes details of publication date.
  3. A more detailed section – why the item is important and why it’s happening, the people/businesses involved and how the item affects the industry/community etc.
  4. A section which expands a bit more, perhaps some background history. How things got started and what took place previously. Perhaps a quote from somebody involved. Another 3-5 sentences.
  5. A  section referred to as the ‘boilerplate’ – just a couple of sentences summing the whole thing up.
  6. Your contact details, including name, phone, email and website address.
